Confused about the various types of tanning lotions available today?

Here is a very basic guide with some important information that we hope you find helpful . . .

Accelerator/Intensifier

Suitable for all skin types
Pure lotion that promotes fast, dark tanning results
No bronzers, DHA or tingle action

Body Blush

For advanced tanners
Increases the amount of oxygen your skin receives
Skin has a blushed, sun-kissed glow without a burning sensation

Bronzers (Single or Natural - no DHA)

Suitable for all skin types
Contains immediate (or cosmetic) bronzers, such as walnut, henna, pumpkin seed or carrot oil
Lasts usually 1-2 days and most washes off in one or two showers

Delayed Bronzers (containing DHA)

NOT recommended for fair skin types or beginning tanners (can cause streaking or staining effect)
Color develops over 2-6 hours and lasts 5-7 days
User should not shower or exercise for a few hours after use

Dual or Multiple Bronzers

Good for darker skin types and advanced tanners
Usually contains both cosmetic and DHA bronzers

Tingle (Hot or Cooling)

Suitable for advanced tanners
Microcirculation process that causes blood vessels in the skin to open and increases blood flow
Increases oxygen in the skin which aids in the delivery of required nutrients
Hot tingle products create a warming, reddening and a tingle sensation with most tanners
The redding effect and tingle sensation can last 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the intensity of the tingle product
Tingle levels range from very mild to very strong
Tingle products generally should NOT be applied to the face
Wait at least 1 hour before showering or exercising

Tan Extenders

Pure moisturizers that replenish moisture lost during the tanning process
Adds back important vitamins and minerals to the skin

Sunless Tanning or Self-Tanning Products (including Spray Tans)

Usually contains both DHA and Erythrulose, ingredients that mix the with proteins in the skin to produce a tan color
Results take 2-6 hours to fully develop and last 5-7 days
NOT recommended for fair skin types
Product should be applied to clean, dry exfoliated skin
Apply sparingly to dry areas (knees, elbows, etc) and ALWAYS wipe hands after application
Allow product to dry before dressing and do not get skin wet for 4-6 hours
